All generations of Poles know the song "Serce w plecaku". Michał Zieliński is generally associated with this composition and for sure he will be identified with it by future generations.
On 17th September 1983, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of writing the song "Serce w plecaku", a plaque was placed on the façade of the former Garrison Club (Klub Garnizonowy). It was made according to Stanisław Lenart’s project by students from Secondary School of Visual Arts (Państwowe Liceum Sztuk Plastycznych).
10th November 2003, the day before another anniversary of regaining independence by Poland, was speciallyhonoured by the second plaque dedicated to the remarkable person of Michał Zieliński. The plaque, presenting the bust of the author of the famous song "Serce w plecaku", was hung on the Old Tenement Building of the Attavantis (Kamienica Attavantich) in Jarosław, near the plaque of poet Jerzy Hordyński, completing this way the pantheonof well-known personalities of the region.
Tomasz Wywrot, themanager of the Culture and Promotion Centrein Jarosław, and Jadwiga Spiradek, Michał Zieliński’s daughter, were given the mission of unveiling the plaque.
The goal of these plaques - not only those of Michał Zieliński’s - is not to let future generations forget about remarkable residents of Jarosław and their outstanding activity not just for the town but also for the whole Poland.
In 1945 Michał Zieliński served as a sergeant major in Ostróda. The residents of this town didn’t forget about their special guest and in June 1985, on the occasion of 40th anniversary of returning Warmia and Mazury to Poland, they founded a special plaque. It was hung on the tenement building where Zieliński and his wife Teresa lived.
