On 11th October 2009 a poetry and music evening was organised to honour Michał Zieliński, the author of the song "Serce w plecaku", which is known in the whole Europe.
The event took place in Garrison Club in Jarosław and the program in honour of Michał Zieliński was presented by the instruction staff with Teresa Łobacz as the leader.
The family of Michał Zieliński, his daughter Jadwiga Spiradek, her husband and son, came to the evening. Soldiers from Jarosław Garrison and 21th Brigade of Rifles (Brygada Strzelców Podhalańskich) were also present.
Memories of Michał Zieliński came back during that evening. Some of the guests still remembered him very well. Dynamic songs sung by soldiers, for example "Czerwone słoneczko", "Wojskowy blues" introduced a special atmosphere of enthusiasm but also reflection.
"Serce w plecaku" is a very special song, catchy and fast remembered. It was sung by many soldiers who fought for independent Poland on all fronts of the second world war and it was equally performed in concentration camps. Thanks to the catchy lyrics and melody, this song was able to spreadin a lot of countries.
Later, after the songs, it was possible to watch a presentation of photos taken by Zieliński. Since photography was his passion, it would have been a shame not to show his work in that domain. The photos were available thanks to politeness of his daughter.
Memorialising remarkable Poles is for us, patriots, a really important role nowadays. Michał Zieliński, a wonderful man, composer, soldier, is an authority for us, young people from secondary school ZSDGiL im. Augusta Witkowskiego in Jarosław. We created a noticeboard showing his achievements to introduce this special person to our older and younger schoolmates, to present his big talent, but also to inspire others to look at our region in a more positive way. Michał Zieliński demonstrates irrefutably that it does not matter where we live, whether it is a big city or a small town, what does matter is the will to do something special. Well, the man with a big heart inspires us all the time…
